STV Appeal calls on Optical Express in support of children in poverty

Optical Express is delighted to pledge their support to the STV Appeal 2011 by donating the use of their Customer Contact Centre for the final week of the campaign. This year’s STV Appeal seeks to raise awareness and support for children affected by poverty in Scotland.

The STV Appeal is a charitable venture set up by STV and The Hunter Foundation to not only raise money, but raise awareness of the crippling problem of child poverty in Scotland. One in four children in Scotland lives in poverty, that’s 240,000 children. 95,000 of these children live in the most severe poverty.

Rob Woodward, Chief Executive of STV and Board Member of the STV Appeal, said:“We are delighted that businesses in Scotland are getting behind the STV Appeal, donating cash, advice, resources and support for what is an incredibly worthy cause. This is just the first year of the Appeal and we have high hopes that it will gain strong momentum over time, truly making a difference to people’s lives.”

Optical Express employees have also volunteered their own time to man the Centre and take donations over the phone. Supporting fundraising will also take place within all 58 Optical Express locations in Scotland.

Mary-Frances Kearney, Marketing Manager at Optical Express, said: “We are proud to be in a position to offer our services to such a worthwhile cause. We have been touched by the response from our staff in giving up their free time to man the calls which I believe is testament to the worthwhile nature of this charity.”

All Scottish Optical Express stores will display a counter top charity box and supporting posters to encourage additional donations. The 350-strong Optical Express head office based in Cumbernauld, Glasgow will also raise money by holding a paid for dress down day.
