Optical Express eyes Irish expansion

Optical Express has grown its presence in Ireland by acquiring a new laser eye consultation and treatment clinic in Cork.

The new addition, previously operated by Ultralase, will complement existing Optical Express clinics already established on Wellington Road in Dublin, Whitewater Shopping Centre in Newbridge and Mahon Point Shopping Centre in Cork.

Conal Hurley, an experienced Ophthalmologist who is local to Cork and has performed over 27,000 refractive procedures, will perform treatment at the new clinic on Model Farm Road. Conal joined Optical Express in early 2013 and already treats patients at the Dublin and Newbridge clinics; he is now delighted to be able to treat patients in his home town.

Patients in the local area who had previously been treated by Ultralase at the clinic will be offered aftercare by Optical Express.

The move will strengthen Optical Express’ capacity in Ireland, where it carried out over 5,000 procedures in 2012.

Optical Express CEO David Moulsdale commented:

“We are pleased to have completed the deal to acquire this key new site in Ireland. We already have a strong presence there but this further demonstrates our commitment to providing a first class eye care service for people of all ages across the country.”

“We will continue to explore strategic options for growth in Ireland as part of the group’s targeted expansion plan, as we believe our combination of affordable pricing with investment in the very best technology in the sector and the highest standards of staff training offers customers and patients an unbeatable level of wraparound eye care.”

Optical Express now has more than 170 locations throughout the United Kingdom, Ireland, Croatia, France, Germany and The Netherlands and its surgeons having carried out over 2 million procedures worldwide.
